Karolina Ewa Unger is an emerging heroic dramatic soprano (Hochdramatischer Sopran) of Polish origin. She discovered her affection for opera while studying art history at the Jagiellonian University Cracow. Following a short preparatory course in Berlin, she received a grant for vocal studies in Switzerland with a renowned American soprano Janet Perry. She graduated from Hochschule der Künste in Bern under the tutelage of prof. Brigitte Wohlfarth in year 2014. During her studies, she gained experience as a guest of several young artist programs in Switzerland, Italy, the Netherlands and Germany, including the Swiss Opera Studio, Spazio Musica, Dutch Opera Studio and the prestigious program for Young Wagnerian Voices, founded by Bayreuther Festspiele.
Karolina Ewa Unger is a winner of Nicati de Luze Prize in year 2013 and was awarded numerous grants and distinctions, including the scholarship of Swiss Wagnerian Association in year 2014, Acknowledgement from Polish Wagner Association in 2016, a grant from Crawford Foundation Munich in consecutive years 2017 and 2018, first prize at Golden Classical Music Awards International Competition and a bursary from Kosciuszko Foundation New York in year 2018. In year 2019 she was nominated for Emmy Destinn Young Singers Award in London. Her current repertoire includes the most important roles of the dramatic soprano Fach but also of Zwischenfach. Active in the field of contemporary music, Karolina Ewa Unger sings the compositions of Krzysztof Penderecki, Hans Werner Henze and Thomas Ades.
The highlights of the recent seasons included the Carnegie Hall recital and the part of Brünnhilde in the concert version of R. Wagner’s „Die Walküre” (Amsterdam).
Since Fall of 2019 Karolina Ewa Unger is a student of KS Linda Watson at the Music and Arts University Vienna, pursuing her Certificate of Excellence in Performance.
